Ayurvedic Ways To Stay Healthy In Rainy Season

Different seasonal changes are observed in different countries throughout the year. Among all the seasons rainy season stands as most beloved season across the globe. As one can’t avoid seasonal changes, its variations will definitely reflect upon ones health but if you follow the seasonal regime for rainy season described in Ayurveda, you are good to enjoy the mesmerizing drizzles & colourful rainbows in the pink of your health throughout the season.

Yes you read it right, “The Seasonal Regime”. Ayurveda has given preventive & therapeutic majors for all the seasons. Ayurveda divides the span of a one whole year into 6 seasons which are;

  1. Varsha (Monsoon)
  2. Sharada (Autumn)
  3. Hemant (Fall winter)
  4. Shishir (Winter)
  5. Vasant (Spring)
  6. Grishma(Summer)
  • Eat freshly cooked, warm & light food
  • When days are cooler due to wind & rain- take sour, salty & unctuous food.
  • Cereals: Old barley, Wheat and Rice
  • Pulses: Green gram pulse, Lentil
  • Unctuous food: Ghee, coconut oil, sesame oil
  • Vegetables: preferably non leafy vegetables like Bitter melon (Karela), Sweet potato, cucumber, White onions etc.
  • Nonveg: Meat of wild animals & its processed soup
  • Water: Boiled & cooled water mixed with honey or lukewarm water
  • Avoid over exposure to sunrays
  • Exercise: Avoid heavy physical exercise
  • Bath: Bath with warm water. Use perfumes & garlands after bath.
  • Clothing: Wear light, clean & properly dried clothes.

  • Sleep: Avoid daytime sleep as it hampers digestion & slows metabolism also avoid sleeping outside the house or in open air.
  • Residence: Reside in a place which is dry, clean & free from dampness
  • When on Outing: Avoid walking into dirty & accumulated water. Avoid frequently getting wet in rains. However, if you get wet in rain then change into dry and clean clothes as soon as possible. Keep your body dry & warm. It is essential to avoid exposure to various infections as our immunity is naturally low in rainy season.

    Panchakarma in rainy season

    In both healthy & diseased ones, Basti(medicated enema), Virechana& Vamana are advised in Panchakarma procedures.

    Though Ayurveda has suggested different seasonal regimes for each season it also advocates shifting from one regime to another gradually because any abrupt change in diet & lifestyle can sometimes cause health issues.
